Fishing Report December/January

Sorry for no report October/November but was some of you already know Neil and I had a long overdue holiday. During this time we were fortunate enough to have our son-in-law Dave and daugher Carolyn look after the shop for us on the weekends. We are back on the job and open every day now except Christmas Day.
The Mulloway classic finishes end of November so you still have a week left to catch a big one. Testing kits and entry forms can be picked up from the shop. Good Luck.
A Lot of reports already of good sized Mangrove Jack in the Tweed and also Currumbin Creek. Best Bait -Live poddy mullet also they will readily take a lure so call in and we can suggest a few for you. Try around the Tweed bridges and also target and overhangs or obstuctions in the river.
Whiting in good numbers and size. Best bait live worms.yabbies. frozen bait- prawns ,worms, pipis. Also have been taking small twister tail plastics and small poppers.
Flathead will be another good fish to target. Flathead are suckers for a lures and soft plastics - best colours pink or lime green. Best bait -live herring = frozen bait -whitebait or mullet fillets.
Offshore -Looks like a great start to the mackerel season. One very well known local Palm Beach fisherman was in the shop on the weekend and he said he caught more mackerel this weekend than he had done all last season. Could account for the large number of boats on Palm Beach reef on Sunday. Best Bait - small pillies or larger anchovies or blue bait. Best lures 30 grm spinner.
Small black marlin should be showing up toward the end of December. Try the Mud Hole or Nine Mile reef.
We have a good supply of fishing licences so do remember to call in and get one before you fish. We hate selling them and you hate buying them but nothing can spoil a holiday more than a $200 fine and done forget that under 18 or people with a pension card do not need one and that there is a half price licence available if you say in the Tweed river.
Hope you see you in the shop over these holidays and if you have a good catch and want to share you experience with us join the forum and send me a photo to tweedfishing.com.au
