Firstly I have just received a newsletter from NSW fisheries (NSW Industry & Investment) and there is good news and bad news.
OK firstly the good news. The fine for getting caught out on the water fishing without a licence has DECREASED , from $200 to $75. Not often you get a decrease.
Now the bad news - if you are caught without your licence or receipt for licence while fishing there is very little chance that you will be allowed time to produce it as before. Apparently only under exceptional circumstances will you be able to produce it at a later date. - SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CURRENT FISHING LICENCE ON YOU WHILE YOU ARE FISHING. Also there are some changes to fishing regulations from september 1st and we will have all the new brochures, stickers, etc in the shop soon.
Now I would like to apologise to our customers for shutting the shop for three weeks while Neil and I took a hard earned holiday. We have come back refreshed and hopefully will not snap at you when you come in to buy that fishing licence. I would still like to know when "fishing licence"became a sentence that I could answer. You would be surprised how many rock up to the counter and that is the only two words that they utter!
Now for the fishing news. At the moment we are still getting some nice sized bream and flathead. The weather is reallly warming up quickly and Mangrove jack will start to be caught in numbers by the end of the month. There is still some Luderwick being caught, unfortunately we have no weed so you will have to gather you own. We do have a good supply of Black magic hooks, soft split shot, good cedar floats, fluro carbon leader.
If you are planning on using soft plastics for those flathead or Mangrove jack we can point you in the right direction for the best lure. Also we have a great selection of snake skin carbon rods and if you team them up with a snakeskin reel we will give you 20% off the combo.
Whitebait has been in short supply but we just got in the new batch and I have been assured that there should be a good supply from now on. Also we have anchovies again. We have some small Bonito, which are great cut in strips for tailor or snapper.
Offshore you will find that you will do well to target Snapper. Best baits pilchards or small squid. Also Gulp fluro shads work well.
