fishing Report February/March

Lots of heavy rain this month. The river is clearing up nicely. This arm (Terranora inlet) always clears first before the main arm towards Murwillumbah. Even during the rain a few keen fishermen were getting some very nice bream near Barneys Point bridge in all the brown water. There will still be some Mangrove Jack this month and March while the water is still warm. April May should see the start of the Luderwick season.
Its hard to tell yet how the river will respond to the big ammount of fresh so I will try and post a later report as the fishing improves.
Some really big mud crabs are being caught at the moment.
While the seas have been huge there has been little hope of getting off shore but this weekend should be good. During the Christmas season the NSW Fisheries have been off shore catching boats that are fishing in NSW waters off shore without a fishing licence. One customer told us of going out from Currumbin and after finding Palm Beach reef crowded they went east and found a spot to fish but unfortunately they were in NSW waters and ended up with a $200 fine each plus more fines for fish sizes. Seeing as it is almost impossible to get a map with the border Offshore I find it really unfair that the NSW fisheries are using this for a revenue raiser. They obviously know that most fishermen would assume that the border corresponds with the land border and who in their right mind would believe that the border off shore veers off to Moreton Island. Perhaps a warning and a bit of information would certainly be a better option than their heavy handed tactics. Perhaps the NSW fisheries could include a map of the Tweed concession area and the offshore border in their information booklet.
Will post more info in the fishin conditions next week
