NSW Labor Government announced fishing bans.

On Friday 28th January the NSW Labor Government announced fishing bans at some of the state’s most popular fishing spots. Jervis Bay, South West Rocks, and the Solitary Islands at Coffs Harbour were all targeted in the latest round of fishing bans. Anglers thankfully aren’t taking it lying down. Local fishos from the far north coast are justifiably furious about closures to the snapper, pearl pearch and teraglin fishery, and proposed extensions to the Byron Bay MP. They organised their second protest meeting at Tweed Heads on Saturday 5th February.

SORRY SORRY SORRY -MISINFORMATION RE FINES FISHING LICENCES

IN MY LAST REPORT I SAID THAT THE FISHING LICENCE FINE HAD DECREASED - I AM SO SORRY BUT AS OUR "FRIENDLY LOCAL FISHING INSPECTOR" JUST ADVISED ME I HAD SOMEHOW MISREAD THE FISHERIES NEWS BULLETIN RE NEW LAWS AND YES THE FINE IS $75 ON THE SPOT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR LICENCE ON YOU WHEN ASKED BUT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LICENCE AT ALL THE FINE IS STILL $200.

Fishing Report September/October

Firstly I have just received a newsletter from NSW fisheries (NSW Industry & Investment) and there is good news and bad news.
OK firstly the good news. The fine for getting caught out on the water fishing without a licence has DECREASED , from $200 to $75. Not often you get a decrease.

fISHING REPORT APRIL/ MAY

Well we have certainly had enough rain, but the river is looking terrific and there are lots of fish to be had. Good catches of flathead and bream and late may will be the start of the larger sea bream in the river. Also May is the "start" of the luderwick season. These fish are caught all year around but are in larger numbers in the colder months. Usually we start to get good supplies of weed sent up from Yamba as the demand increases. Hopefully the rain will not be heavy during this time and the weed will not get washed away.

fishing Report February/March

Lots of heavy rain this month. The river is clearing up nicely. This arm (Terranora inlet) always clears first before the main arm towards Murwillumbah. Even during the rain a few keen fishermen were getting some very nice bream near Barneys Point bridge in all the brown water. There will still be some Mangrove Jack this month and March while the water is still warm. April May should see the start of the Luderwick season.
Its hard to tell yet how the river will respond to the big ammount of fresh so I will try and post a later report as the fishing improves.
